Meeting with Shri Indrajit Singh Rao (Minister of State, Independent Charge, for Planning, Statistics and Programme Implementation and Minister of State for Defence)

As a part of political advocacy, NACDOR has been engaged with leaders of different political parties, Members of Legislative Assembly, Members of Parliament, Ministers and Ministries responsible for policy framework in the country. A team of three members namely, Mr. Umesh Babu, Dr Mukhtar Alam and Dr Swarup Dutta visited Honourable Minister Shri Indrajit Singh Rao, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Planning, Statistics and Programme Implementation and Minister of State for Defence, around 10.15 am, 9 June, 2014 in his residence. Shiri Rao represents Gurgaon Loksabha seat in Haryana as a member of Bhartiya Janta Party. He is a prominent leader of the Ahir (Yadav) community.

While talking the Honorable Minister, the team briefed him on various activities with special reference to planning and implementation issues of NACDOR. The team also presented a brochure, bouquet, and Memento.

After carefully listening about the organization, Shri Rao expressed his interests and concern about the issues and advised the team to meet him with a fixed appointment so that he could discuss the issues elaborately.

 

Planning Consultation on preparing State Nutrition Status Reports and Report Cards

0n 14th July, 2014, a planning consultation was organised on preparation of State Nutrition Status Reports and Report Cards as a support process to the National Campaign on Nutrition for Dignity initiated by NACDOR with support from GAIN. These status reports will be prepared for 18 states, namely: Haryana, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Gujrat, Maharashtra, Erstwhile Andhra Pradesh ( Telangana and Seemandra), Karnataka, Tamilnadu, Odisha, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Assam. Researchers who have taken the responsibility for preparing these reports met for the whole day to discuss the contents and modalities.

It was a good beginning of the process. Various data sources were discussed and analysed for the use in these reports. Potentials and limitations of these data sources and secondary reports were also shared. Some concepts related to nutrition were discussed to keep the whole team on the same wavelength. Many expected areas of coverage in these reports were debated. A consensus was reached on all the points and a review and coordination team was formed. First draft of the reports are expected to be ready by September beginning. The research team includes academicians and knowledge service providers of diverse experiences. The information and knowledge base thus generated will equip the state level campaign committees of NCND to conduct their campaign on nutrition security for socially excluded communities in a more impactful and informed way.
