State Coordination Committee Meetings : National Campaign on Nutrition for Dignity

Being the national apex body, having membership of more than 2000 Organisations spread over 23 states, National Confederation of Dalit Organizations (NACDOR) is fully committed for the well-being of the Dalits, Adivasis, minorities and other socially excluded sections. Following its mandate for addressing excluded and deprived community’s development needs in terms of food and nutrition security, NACDOR, with support from Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), initiated National Campaign on Nutrition for Dignity (NCND) on 5th – 6th December 2013. The campaign has begun in 10 states in India. National Campaign on Nutrition for Dignity (NCND) is motivating and capacitating the grass root level community leadership of socially excluded Dalits and Adivasis on nutritional security, thus enabling them to change their behaviour, demand and access their entitlements and make duty bearers accountable while advocating on the learnings on administrative and policy gaps identified in the social audits generating a seamless synergy of actions at the state and national levels in order to ensure the realisation of the vision inclusive, malnutrition and hunger free India through realising the vision in the states.

In this regard, State Coordination Committees for National Campaign on Nutrition of Dignity are being formed and meetings organised in the 10 identified states of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Odhisha, Chattisgarh, Haryana, West Bengal, Gujarat and Maharashtra. Out of these 10 state , we have identified 5 states Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha where intensive grass root community and Gram Sabha led social audits are taking place intensifying community led actions through local governance institutions in 180 panchayats of the 30 districts.

The objective of the proposed State Coordination Meetings in the state meetings is to develop a forum for exchange of ideas, work as communication channel and resource center for issues related to malnutrition and hunger in general. Participants in the meeting will share their experiences and thoughts on nutrition programmes in the state, develop a plan to strengthen the National Campaign on Nutrition for Dignity in the state and mode of operation of the State Coordination Committee. District and state level social activists, representatives of INGOs and NGOs, subject specialists and NACDOR’s state level leaders, media and academicians have been invited to participate in NCND State Coordination Committee Meeting.
