Engaging With The Confederation Of Indian Industry
With the publication of National Conference of Dalit Organisations began its engagement as soon as it brought out its in July 2006. Entitled ‘CII-ASSOCHAM Action Plan: Proposed Concrete Steps by Indian Industry on Affirmative Action for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes', the report outlined several promises to deepen representation of weaker sections in Indian industry.
In 2009, NACDOR invited Dr. J. J. Irani, Chairman of the CII’s Affirmative Action Council, for a dialogue with about 100 leaders of the Dalits from all over India. Since then a number of meetings have been held where representatives of CII and NACDOR continue to discuss and take action on issues of mutual agreement.
As a result of this continued dialogue, Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) published the results of a caste census done among a selection of its members throughout India. This survey showed that the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes were critically under-represented in the industry’s workforce. CII has appointed Scheduled Caste representatives to their Affirmative Action Council, which closely monitored the progress of Affirmative Action Plan of its membership.
